4/22 – Family Picnic Day
April 22 is not just
Earth Day – it’s also Family Picnic Day! And we’ve planned a lawn
party from 2 to 6 p.m. for all ages to enjoy. We’re bringing a bounce
house, face-painters and arts and crafts to Lindo Lake… You bring your family
and your favorite picnic dishes. Activities kick off after the
morning’s Creek to Bay cleanup event (see below). For more
information, call 619-443-1666.
4/22 – Earth Day Back Trails Hike
Join Ranger Bill on an April 22 Earth Day hike through
the Santa Ysabel East Preserve.
Participants will visit the future site of the new nature center
before heading up the hill to the old toll road for incredible valley
views. This is a moderate, 6-mile hike that meets at the Highway 79
staging area. Start time is 9 a.m. Participants should wear sturdy
shoes, dress in layers and bring plenty of water and sun protection.
For more information, call 760-765-4098.
4/22 – Creek to Bay Cleanup
Last year, a record
6,400 volunteers took action to protect waterways and nearby habitats
by participating in 110 cleanup events across San Diego – successfully
removing 150,000 pounds of litter. The stage is set for an even bigger
turnout this year… will you join us? We’ll be at the locations below
on April 22. For more information, visit creektobay.org. You will be prompted to
create a free account in order to view individual opportunities.
4/23 – Balboa Park Earth Fair
The San Diego
EarthWorks Earth Fair at Balboa Park is one of the largest of
its kind in the world, powered by 350 volunteers with 300 exhibits, a
parade, educational activities, and entertainment for all ages. This
year, County Parks is setting up two displays – one where kids build a
human-sized bug with their own bodies, and another where families can
sing along to catchy earth-friendly tunes with Rangers Michelle and
Alex. This free event runs from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Public transit
and carpooling are encouraged. Learn more by watching the promotional video.
