With a mission to inspire people of all ages to connect with plants and nature, San Diego Botanic Garden in Encinitas features rare bamboo groves, desert gardens, a tropical rainforest, California native plants, Mediterranean climate landscapes, and a whimsical children’s tree house.
DPR owns parkland in the City of Encinitas that is leased and operated as the San Diego Botanic Garden. Improvements were recently completed that addressed ADA (accessibility) for visitors as well as make necessary improvements for on-going maintenance. Funding is proposed for the SD Botanic Gardens to help implement a master plan vision for the Garden. Future improvements in the master plan will help meet the County's environmental justice goals by ensuring disadvantaged communities are included in the Garden’s programming through new exhibits that will include education of indigenous communities and the significance and use of native plants. The master plan also includes designs for continued improvements for accessibility throughout the property's entirety, and ensures that the County’s goals of providing equity in the Garden’s educational components are met.
