Fill your
calendar with some fun in the sun on Nov. 23. Take a hike, tour a
canyon, meet an animal ambassador - it's all possible at parks from
the top to the bottom of San Diego County. Here are five great
ways to celebrate Green Friday:
VISIT A PARK – ANY PARK – FOR FREE!
On Friday,
Nov. 23, parking fees will be waived at all County Parks and
preserves. The day-use fee is usually $3 per vehicle, per day, at
qualifying locations. Shop more than a hundred destinations online, at

HIKE OFF THE TURKEY AND PIE

This 4-mile, ranger-led hike
through the preserve will climb to exhilarating vistas featuring
unmatched views of Pauma Valley, Palomar Mountain and the San Luis Rey
River. Learn about local plants and animals while exploring historic
sites that tell the story of our region’s earliest settlers. We’ll
keep an even pace to help you burn calories while having fun!

EXPLORE THE CANYON WITH A RANGER
9 – 11 a.m., Sycamore
Canyon/Goodan Ranch County Preserve

Join a
ranger on an interpretive tour of Sycamore Canyon. This popular trail
system features an abundance of local wildlife; look up to see hawks,
Yellow-rumped Warblers and White-crowned sparrows – or down to see
lizards, insects, and if you’re lucky, a snake! Round-trip, this
relatively easy hike is just 2 miles, so you’ll have ample time to
continue on and peruse the visitor center.

NATIVE TREE PLANTING ACTIVITY

We’re planting Sycamore trees at Felicita
County Park – part of a program to replant lost trees 3:1 in developed
parks – and you’re invited! Plant a tree you can revisit, and watch
grow, for years to come. We’ll also be beautifying the creek bed with
general maintenance and trash clean-up. Grab some gloves and give back
to your community – and plan to get a little dirty!

MEET OUR ANIMALS!
2 – 3 p.m.,
Sweetwater
Summit Regional Park

Head south to Bonita and spend a day at Sweetwater. Hike the
trails, picnic near the playground, explore the amphitheater – then
head to the ranger station for a meet-and-greet with real-live animal
ambassadors like snakes and lizards! You’ll also be able to touch
animal skins and pelts while learning all about local wildlife.
