One of the wildest stretches of the San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Preserve has been tamed – just enough for it to open to the public, offering new views and enhanced recreation opportunities.
Once off-limits and prone to vandalism, Annie’s Canyon Trail
(lovingly referred to by locals as the ACT) has been cleaned and
restored to its natural state. This moderately strenuous quarter-mile
loop trail connects to both the Solana Hills Trail and the N. Rios
Avenue Trail in Solana Beach.
A grand opening event was held Tuesday, June 21 to commemorate the occasion. Trail enthusiasts, members of the conservancy, staff from the office of County Supervisor Dave Roberts, and County Parks and Recreation Director Brian Albright led an inaugural trek through the canyon. County News Center was there to collect footage.
This project was a joint effort of the San Elijo Lagoon Conservancy and the County of San Diego Department of Parks and Recreation, and made possible with help from an anonymous donor.
