In sync with the NCAA's March Madness tournament, the County Parks team scheduled a championship bracket featuring parks and preserves across San Diego. Top places to play went head-to-head on social media for several weeks - and the public got to play favorites.
During March Madness = #ParksMadness, we introduced top players
in the North/Mountains, South, East and West/Central regions as
potential champions of the popular vote on social media. Polls were
live for 24 hours and status updates were shared after each matchup to
show which parks would be advancing to the next round.
Polls were posted to the following channels: County Parks Facebook and County Parks Twitter. The park with the most votes at the end of the competition earned “champion” status (along with some well-deserved bragging rights).
2017 Schedule:
After two intense weeks, Lindo Lake County Park and Spring Valley Gym and Teen Center entered into the final round. It was a fierce fight, but in the end, Spring Valley Gym and Teen Center won by about 25 votes.
"This team went out and recruited all of their friends and family to cast votes, and they did, and we are very thankful for all of the support," said Carl McCullough, Parks and Recreation Supervisor for the Gym. "It's always fun in the valley."
"Thank you to everyone who helped, and to everyone who continues to support Spring Valley and all parks in San Diego County," added Recreation Program Coordinator for the Teen Center, Kevin Payton.
