3rd Annual Hike-A-Thon

2025 Hike for health and wellness in the digital age!

The County of San Diego Department of Parks and Recreation is once again partnering with Live Well San Diego and Nature Unplugged to support their October Hike-A-Thon by hosting a Kick-Off event and four ranger-led hikes at popular trails across San Diego County. Build community, discover new trails and experience the benefits of time in nature. More green time - less screen time!

 

AUGUST - OCTOBER LIVE WELL UNPLUGGED CHALLENGE

Whether you’re walking, swimming, exploring local trails, or lending a hand in your community, every moment spent unplugged is a step toward living well. Over the next few weeks, Live Well San Diego will be sharing plenty of FREE ways to Live Well, Unplugged  - in preparation for the Hike-A-Thon.

SEPTEMBER 27 - KICK-OFF EVENT

This free, family-friendly event features wellness and nature themed booths with giveaways and fun activities for all ages, including a speaker program and our first ranger-led hike along Los Peñasquitos Creek. The museum will be open, and guests will have access to the barn and live animals!

Saturday, September 27

9 a.m. until 12 p.m.

Los Peñasquitos Ranch House

The Wellness and Nature EXPO will feature a Nature Discovery Table and Animal Ambassadors, and the Live WOW Bus will be there with Behavioral Health Services.

 

OCTOBER HIKE-A-THON HIKES

Join us for weekly ranger-led hikes hosted by County Parks each Saturday in October. 

Optional - Those who sign up to log their trail miles between Oct. 1 and 31 through a designated Nature Unplugged app, can earn prizes while supporting the scholarship and subsidy program set up by Nature Unplugged for organizations and communities in need.

Kick-Off Event | September 27

9:00 am - 12:00 pm -  Los Penasquitos Ranch House Wellness Fair (resources and family friendly activities)

10 am – Our ranger will take you on a short, guided hike along the bubbling Peñasquitos creek which feeds a dense grove of riparian plants and trees.

Hike #1 | October 4

10 am | San Dieguito County Park 

Nestled just a short distance from the Pacific Ocean in Del Mar, San Dieguito County Park offers an easy loop trail, with lookout platforms, suspension bridges, and hillside ladders open for hikers to explore.

Hike #2 | October 11

9:00 am | Santa Ysabel Nature Center Loop 

A moderately challenging route, the trail starts at the parking lot to take you through mature oaks and rolling grasslands to end back at the Nature Center.

Hike #3 | October 18

9:00 am |   San Elijo Nature Center (Annie’s Canyon)

Meet at the park’n’ride off Manchester to take this loop trail on an easy to moderate hike around the San Elijo Lagoon and through Annie’s Canyon. It’s a great gravel trail for bird-watching and exploring.

Hike #4 | October 25

9:00 am | Goodan Ranch / Sycamore Canyon County Preserve

Martha’s Grove Loop Trail is a moderately challenging route with great views of Sycamore Canyon. The trail is rocky in some areas and muddy in a few places where you'll have to cross a little stream.
