Hawktober is back for a sixth year – our annual celebration of the raptors that live and migrate through the San Diego region (namely hawks). Throughout the month, we host workshops highlighting these majestic species at parks, campgrounds and wilderness preserves in north, east and south county.
This year, rangers have planned 15 educational workshops.
Attend one to meet real hawks, owls and falcons – all part of our
animal ambassador program.
Free for bird lovers of all ages, these workshops cover everything from where these birds of prey live, what they eat, how they hunt, what time of day they can be seen, and the cool survival mechanisms they’ve picked up over time.
You may even discover which falcon species is the fastest animal alive, what owls prefer to hunt during the day, and what hawks are commonly seen in your community.
Different birds will be featured at different locations, and several birds will attend each Hawktober event. Each bird has a name and a history that the rangers love to share. We encourage you to visit more than one workshop, listen in and plan to learn a lot!
Hawktober events begin Oct. 5, are free and open to guests of all ages.
Download the flyer or scroll down to see the list of locations.
You can also view individual events on our Facebook events page – and catch the virtual series we ran in 2020 on Owls, Hawks, Falcons and Small Birds of Prey.
PERK ALERT! When you visit participating facilities, pick up a limited-edition set of Hawktober trading cards (while supplies last)! Each includes a picture of one of our superstar-raptors, and fun stats like their length, weight, wingspan and adaptations for success.
