Rancho Los Peñasquitos was the first Mexican land grant in present-day San Diego County. Presidio comandante Francisco María Ruiz fulfilled the conditions of the grant by building a small adobe structure in 1823. Archaeologists have found remains of that structure within one wing of the existing house.
The surrounding park property features more than 10 miles of non-motorized multi-use trails, a staging area, community garden, restrooms, and is a popular venue for weddings and special events.

Established in 2012, the Los Peñasquitos Community Garden is comprised of 20 6' x 16' garden boxes, providing ‘green thumb’ lessees with the space and amenities they need to grow their own produce. The cost is $120 per year. Gardeners are required to visit weekly and garden every season. Call 858-484-7504 for information, and to be added to the wait list. Please be prepared to share your first and last name, your phone number, your email address and a general overview of your gardening experience. You can also send a message to a park ranger.
