The County of San Diego Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) recently launched a new program: Women in the Wild.
This unique approach to programming is in direct response to industry research, which shows women are interested – and see value – in outdoor experiences, but various barriers stand in their way of enjoying nature as often as men. DPR aims to reverse that trend.
Women in the Wild events teach essential outdoor skills in a fun, nurturing and non-competitive environment. Activities are informative and interactive – building participants’ confidence and a sense of community, while fostering new appreciation for our region’s parks, preserves and diverse recreational opportunities.
Women in the Wild experiences are planned for women, by female staff members and agency partners.
With six to 12 events per year, and topics ranging from hiking to mountain-biking, and rock climbing to camping, DPR is opening new avenues for conversation, connection and collaboration.
The first event will be a Women’s Campout, at Oakoasis County Park, taking place Nov. 16 to 17. Spots are still available!
We’re also finalizing details for an Intro to Mountain Biking Course, scheduled for Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve on Nov. 30.
